5 Ways to Tie a Scarf: Your 60-Second Visual Guide

5 Ways for a man to tie a scarf men's style.

Scarves are a great way to stay toasty warm when the winter winds come biting. But many men don’t know how to tie a scarf in a masculine and confident way. Using Antonio Centeno’s article from a few years ago, we illustrated 5 of the best ways for a man to tie a scarf so you can see your options at a glance.

The first 3 ways are for medium-length scarves, and will serve you well in cool temperatures — above freezing and up into the 50s. The final 2 ways are for longer scarves, and are better for those chilly days that dip well below the freezing mark.

Sport any of these different styles, and you’ll be a dapper fellow about town.

The drape

Simply drape the scarf around your neck, with equal lengths on both sides.

The once around

Drape the scarf around your neck with the right side being shorter. Bring the left side up and over your shoulder, and around your neck to the front again.

The over hand

Drape the scarf around your neck with the right side being shorter, and left side crossed over it. Like the necktie of the same name, bring the left side up through the loop in the neck, and back out to the front.

Reverse drape

With the scarf around your neck (equal lengths on both sides), take the right side and throw it over your left shoulder, and then the left side and throw it over your right shoulder.

The Parisian knot

Fold scarf in half and drape around neck. Bring the loose end through the loop and tighten.
