The History of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu [VIDEO]

One of my future goals is to take up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s my way of trying to tap into the Protector Pillar of the three P’s of Manhood. That’s why I’m excited about this series of videos we have have coming up. AoM’s video man Jordan Crowder lives in the L.A. area, which happens to be the home of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Hélio Gracie developed what’s now known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Gracie family continues to teach and spread his art today. Jordan paid a visit to the Gracie HQ and did a series of introductory videos on BJJ with Rener Gracie. In this video, Rener gives a history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In subsequent videos, Rener will show us a few introductory moves.

If you’d like to learn more about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, visit Gracie Academy. They have an online program where you can learn BJJ in the comfort of your own home (it’s basically designed as a buddy program — you can sign on and find a partner near you and go in to any of their affiliate schools or “garages” in conjunction with the program). Also, be sure to check out the Gracie Family YouTube Channels: Gracie Academy and Gracie Breakdown.
