They touch on both a man&#8217;s psyche and spirit, and apply equally well to civilians going through any kind of rough time.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">THE WILL TO SURVIVE<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>ARTICLE VI CODE OF CONDUCT <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I will never forget that I am an American fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Psychology of Survival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>a. Preparation\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Know your capabilities and limitations.<br \/>\n(2) Keep a positive attitude.<br \/>\n(3) Develop a realistic plan.<br \/>\n(4) Anticipate fears.<br \/>\n(5) Combat psychological stress by\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">(a) Recognizing and anticipating existing stressors (injury, death, fatigue, illness, environment, hunger, isolation).<br \/>\n(b) Attributing normal reactions to existing stressors (fear, anxiety, guilt, boredom, depression, anger).<br \/>\n(c) Identifying signals of distress created by stressors (indecision, withdrawal, forgetfulness, carelessness, and propensity to make mistakes).<\/p>\n<p>b. Strengthen your will to survive with\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) The Code of Conduct.<br \/>\n(2) Pledge of Allegiance.<br \/>\n(3) Faith in America.<br \/>\n(4) Patriotic songs.<br \/>\n(5) Thoughts of return to family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>c. Group dynamics of survival include\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Leadership, good organization, and cohesiveness promote high morale:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">(a) Preventing panic.<br \/>\n(b) Creating strength and trust in one another.<br \/>\n(c) Favoring persistency in overcoming failure.<br \/>\n(d) Facilitating formulation of group goals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(2) Taking care of your buddy.<br \/>\n(3) Working as a team.<br \/>\n(4) Reassuring and encouraging each other.<br \/>\n(5) Influencing factors are\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">(a) Enforcing the chain of command.<br \/>\n(b) Organizing according to individual capabilities.<br \/>\n(c) Accepting suggestions and criticism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Spiritual Considerations <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>a. Collect your thoughts and emotions.<\/p>\n<p>b. Identify your personal beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>c. Use self-control.<\/p>\n<p>d. Meditate.<\/p>\n<p>e. Remember past inner sources to help you overcome adversity.<\/p>\n<p>f. Pray for your God\u2019s help, strength, wisdom, and rescue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Talk to your God.<br \/>\n(2) Give thanks that God is with you.<br \/>\n(3) Ask for God\u2019s help.<br \/>\n(4) Pray for protection and a positive outcome.<\/p>\n<p>g. Remember scripture, verses, or hymns; repeat them to yourself and to your God.<\/p>\n<p>h. Worship without aid of written scripture, clergy, or others.<\/p>\n<p>i. Forgive\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Yourself for what you have done or said that was wrong.<br \/>\n(2) Those who have failed you.<\/p>\n<p>j. Praise God and give thanks because\u2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) God is bigger than your circumstances.<br \/>\n(2) God will see you through (no matter what happens).<br \/>\n(3) Hope comes from a belief in heaven and\/or an after-life.<\/p>\n<p>k. Trust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">(1) Faith and trust in your God.<br \/>\n(2) Love for family and self.<br \/>\n(3) Never lose hope.<br \/>\n(4) Never give up.<\/p>\n<p>l.
